Misty Oaks Vineyard
 |
 |
Steve and Christy Simmons first visited the Umpqua Valley from their home in Alaska in 1999. They were immediately attracted to the area and purchased vineyard property nestled in the Tyee foothills in 2000. First planting occurred in 2000 and first wine production was made from the 2003 harvest. Steve and Christy have experienced many remarkable events in the field during their short tenure as vineyard developers. From these events they have derived names for each wine produced from areas of the vineyard based on these events such as Gobbler's Knob and Stuckagain Heights. As you will see; the mission at Misty Oaks is to "make good fruit, good wine and to enjoy life along the way".
Currently six varietals are planted on fifteen acres of hillside ranging from 700 to 1000 foot of elevation. Until Fall of 2007, misty Oaks wine was made via custom crush with other local wineries. In the Fall of 2007 an exciting expansion occurred with the addition of a new winery facility on-site.
In the Spring of 2007, the tasting room opened for business. Steve and Christy and their staff are excited to share the fruits of their labors and welcome you to come and enjoy some Alaskan hospitality in the Umpqua.
Varieties:
- 2006 Julio's Hill Pinot Gris
A soft and luscious Gris offers a stone-fruit nose with a touch of honeysuckle. The sweet entry is nicely balanced by fresh acidity, making it a wonderful food-pairing wine as well as a solo sipper.
- 2006 Friendswood Gewurztraminer
A heavenly melange of aromatic delights - lychee, rose petals and orangeblossoms. Seductive sweetness starts the journey to a pleasing, crisp acidity. Pair this beauty with spicy fare.
- 2006 Jones Road Cabernet Franc
Fresh bright raspberries and a hint of mint with nuances of a summer field invite you to drink with abandon now!
- 2005 Stuckagain Heights Pinot Noir
Bottled September 2006 - Pommard and 667, full bodied but not over the top.
- 2005 Gobbler' Knob Blend
There's no other word for this red but "yummy!" Juicy fruit and a creamy mouthfeel give our popular '05 blend widespread appeal. Drink now!

- 2004 Gobbler's Knob Red Blend
A favorite among our "big red" fans. Dark fruit and exotic wood invites you to sink your teeth into this meaty, peppery blend. Drinks well now but patience is a virtue that will reward those who put this away, allowing those bold tannins to soften into liquid velvet.
- 2005 Constitution Ridge Pinot Blanc
If you are caught in a chardonnay rut, sip this blanc and feel renewed! Sandalwood and butter swirl in the glass offering rich mouthfeel and a bright crisp finish.
