[UMPQUA, OR. – March 12, 2014]

During its February 25-26, 2014 event in Canon Beach, Oregon, SavorNW wine competition awarded Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards™ an unprecedented three ‘Best of Class’ distinctions. Reustle Prayer Rock Vineyards™ 2012 Malbec, 2012 Pinot Noir Reserve, and 2012 Tempranillo were all chosen ‘Best of Class’ for their respective classes.

Stephen M. Reustle, Owner/Winemaker said, “I am humbled by the experience of winning three ‘Best of Class’ awards.”  Reustle continued to add, “To win a ‘Best of Class’ designation is remarkable.  To win three in the same competition is unheard of.”  Reustle compared three wins to completing a “Hat trick” in professional soccer.

In total there were 555 wines from Oregon, Washington, Idaho and British Columbia judged at the annual competition, making SavorNW Wine Awards one of the largest wine competitions focusing exclusively on Northwest wine regions. Reustle-Prayer Rock Vineyards competed in seven classes winning ‘Best of Class’ in three and medaling in all seven, which was the best showing of any winery from any region at this year’s event. “For us to win ‘Best of Class’ in Tempranillo is a wonderful achievement considering how many producers are making great Tempranillo in the Umpqua and Rogue Valleys. But for us to also win ‘Best of Class’ for Pinot Noir and Malbec, shows the strength and diversity of this area, especially when you consider our competition was from the Willamette Valley and Washington.” Stephen Reustle said.

Gary Hayes, founder of SavorNW Wine Awards had this to say about the growing distinction of the Umpqua Valley, “I’ve personally been a fan of Southern Oregon wines for several years and our SavorNW Wine Awards are designed to showcase all of the great wine regions in the Northwest. While the quality of Washington wines and Oregon’s Willamette Valley wines are becoming well known, I’m always thrilled when some of the lesser known regions demonstrate what great wines are being crafted in the Northwest. Reustle — Prayer Rock Vineyards is definitely one of the great examples of extraordinary wines coming from Umpqua Valley and Southern Oregon.”

“I believe there’s a trend here,” said Reustle, “the Umpqua Valley is truly world class in its ability to produce at the highest quality among many different varietals. Competition results like these from SavorNW are really helping to solidify this area as one of the premier wine producing regions in the country.”
